In this capacity, I aim to bring engineering, policy, and community‑centered leadership to local and regional governance. Currently I serve on appointed boards and regional committees, advises on coastal resiliency and environmental policy, and leads professional society efforts to advance equity and public engagement.

Appointed Board Member — City of Portsmouth Board of Zoning Appeals

Appointed Term: June 24, 2026 - December 31, 2030

Appointed by Portsmouth City Council to serve as a board member responsible for reviewing land‑use appeals, variances, and zoning decisions to ensure transparent, equitable outcomes for Portsmouth neighborhoods. Focuses on balancing technical review with community priorities and long‑term neighborhood resilience.

Provides community perspective and guidance on public media programming, outreach, and civic engagement initiatives. Works to ensure WHRO’s content and outreach reflect regional needs and diverse voices.

Provides technical and policy guidance to the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) on regional environmental planning, data interpretation, and cross‑jurisdictional coordination. Advises on strategies that center community needs and environmental equity.

Supports coastal resiliency planning through technical analysis, stakeholder engagement, and actionable recommendations to reduce flood and climate risks. Emphasizes equitable adaptation measures that protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure.
